Dr. Ron Moses

Dr. Ron Moses has over 14 years of experience in leadership development, student development and career transition at the K-12, higher education and military levels. Ron is currently the Associate Athletic Director of Student-Athlete Support Services and Assistant Professor at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. At Old Dominion, Ron also serves on several campus committees pertaining to student success, diversity and inclusion initiatives and the male graduation task force.

Prior to Old Dominion, Ron served at the University of Missouri – Columbia as the Director of Academics for football and women’s golf. Under his leadership, the football team experienced consecutive semesters of record academic achievement. While at Mizzou, Ron was the staff advisor for the Minorities in Sport Alpha Chapter and athletics liaison for the office of Academic Integrity, the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, and Black Faculty and Staff Organization, housed in the Division of Inclusion, Diversity and Equity. 

Ron was integral in setting football program records for overall grade point average and number of athletes above a 3.0 GPA during his time at Georgia State University and the University of South Florida. Also, under his direction the South Florida softball program received the 2015-2016 American Athletic Conference Team Academic Excellence Award for the highest cumulative GPA in the conference. From 2013-2015, Ron was the Academic Football Coordinator at Kansas State University, where the program experienced three straight seasons with the highest GPA and Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores in the conference.

Originally from Atlanta, GA, Ron earned his Associate’s degree from Georgia Military College (2008), Bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia (2011), Master’s degree from Western Kentucky University (2013), and Ph.D. from Kansas State University (2019). He is a proud veteran of the United States Army and Army National Guard, having served for the 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, and the 3rd Infantry Division based out of Winder and Fort Stewart, Georgia. Ron received an honorable discharge.

Ron’s research is published in the Sociology of Sport Journal. He is a member of the National Association of Athletic Academic Advisors (N4A), where he serves on the Research and Ethnic Concerns Committee. He is a graduate of the Big XII Diversity Leadership Program, NCAA Effective Facilitator Workshop and N4A Professional Development Institute. He is a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
